Les Copains d’Abord is found in a magnificent setting in Mahebourg. It is located close to the waterfront, and the restaurant offers an amazing view of the historical bay of Mahebourg, where the famous naval battle of Vieux Grand Port took place in 1810.
From the outside seating, you may contemplate the coastal countryside namely the blue sea with the traditional boats (pirogue), the ‘Badamier trees, the Lion Mountain and one of the famous island of the south east, Ile au Phare. What’s even better at this restaurant is that though you are inside you will still have a view of the sea.
The restaurant is home to classic wooden furniture, original flower displays both on the tables and inside the restaurant. Salt, pepper and chilli paste are displayed on banana leaves and the salt is served in seashells. Quite original and beautiful. You will be welcomed in a world of flavors where you will be able to taste both seafood and fresh local products.
It offers mainly traditional Creole cuisine with fresh products such as duck, chicken, wild boar, deer, crayfish, palm kernel, pineapple from ‘The Domaine des 7 Vallées’ and with fish, crabs, shellfish and crayfish caught in the lagoon of Mahébourg. Some of the specialities which will leave you wanting for more are the venison (steak, curry), squid and calamari (crispy, curry), roast boar, palm heart and octopus salad among others. At night there is a piano bar atmosphere, and sometimes karaoke as well.
For unique evenings, birthdays, weddings or end-of-year celebrations, it is possible to privatize the restaurant.
