Grand Baie offers some of the best aquatic adventures on the island

Grand Baie (or Grand Bay) is a coastal village in the North West of Mauritius situated in the district of Rivière du Rempart. It is one of the most popular and most visited places on the island.

It is found at a distance of about 25 km from Port Louis, the Capital. Served by a motorway directly linked to the airport and the capital, the drive from Port Louis to Grand Baie takes about 30 minutes, while the drive from the airport takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Bus routes in direction of Grand Baie are also easily accessible. Nearby well known villages around Grand Baie are Pereybere, and Trou aux Biches with all 3 places hosting some of the best beaches on the island.

Let’s go back to the past for a little bit of history, the Dutch who discovered the island by sheer mishap in 1598, named Grand Baie ‘De Bogt Zonder Eyndt’ in the 17th century which means Bay Without End in Dutch. You will be able to witness this by yourself as you reach there with the bay and the sea stretching as far as you can see. It would be a shame not to enjoy such a gift from the nature.

It is therefore obvious that Grand Baie offers some of the best aquatic adventures on the island; swimming, sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, underwater Adventures such as the Underwater Sea Walk, Submarine excursion and the Underwater Scooter, deep sea diving and if you enjoy boat trips, it the place where you can catch a boat for deep sea fishing trips or for excursions (catamaran and speedboats) to the islands off the North coast of Mauritius: Gunners' Quoin, (Coin de Mire) Flat Island (L’Ile Plate), Round Island (L’Ile Ronde), and Ile au Gabriel.

Besides all this, you can simply lie on the beach and soak in the sun. Absolutely not, Grand Baie is an ideal place to visit anytime of the year because it has very warm summers but also mild winters. Therefore almost 365 days a year, it offers its visitors to enjoy the sun, calm sea and the beautiful beaches.
